Jaldapara
This reserve forest was founded in 1941 mainly for the protection of the great Indian rhinoceros. Area 100 sq. km. 121 km. from Siliguri and 12 km. This forest is inhabited by the rhinos, swamp deer, sambar, tiger, leopard, wild elephant, pig, hog deer, barking deer, peocock, jungle fowl, quail etc. There are riding elephant available in the preserve. According to the cencus count in 1992, there are 33 rhinos in this sanctuary. From June 15th. to September 15th. no tourists are allowed in this reserve forest. If you really love the dense forest and the animals, don't miss this sanctuary.
